The Action Principle in Newtonian Physics

Article 33629 introduced conservation laws in newtonian physics. In that article, the action principle was expressed by requiring that all of the forces be encoded in a single function (the potential energy). This article introduces a more powerful form the action principle: it requires that the whole system of equations of motion be derivable from a single lagrangian.
