This article introduces the concept of a weight lattice associated with a compact simple Lie group G and reviews how the weight lattice is used to characterize finite-dimensional irreducible representations of G. The relationship between the sets of representations of different Lie groups with the same Lie algebra is also reviewed. The focus is on clarifying concepts and results. References to other sources are given instead of proofs.
